In the earlier times, most families lived in a joint family system. Since there were many family members staying together, the responsibilities and utilities were shared. The kitchens were huge to cook for the extended family and staff . Bronze Uruli has always been the first choice when it comes to cooking traditional Kerala dishes. They were heavy bottom bronze vessels ideal for slow cooking on fire. With changing times , the families started to disintegrate and become more nuclear in nature. These Bronze Urulis although perfect for cooking were cumbersome and over time lost its pride of place in the Kerala kitchens .
